Hola!

It's been a while! Sorry! I have made it to Miami! Well, actually we live in Homestead just south of Miami but all the city just runs together. But I am alive and well! We have hit the ground running from day one. So my dad and I made a three day road trip from Texas to South Florida and got here June 9th.

So we work with two congregations, one in Homestead and one in the city of Miami in a part called Kendall. Our main focus is the youth here. The youth group is named 'Jesus for Life' or J4L. It is pretty good sized. We'll have 50 plus on wednesday nights show up. Majority of them are not christian or have no christian background at all. Sure some of them show up just to hang out but many are open to what we have to say. The main goal is to hang out with them, maybe have a Bible study every now and then, and just show them Jesus.

Twice a week we are selling chocolates around the city. J4L takes a big trip once a year to Orlando to an event called 'Rock the Universe' at Universal studios where all the popular Christan bands come to play in concert. It's a two day thing where you can just ride the rides all day or listen to all the Christian bands there or both!

Saturdays we are starting something we call 'VBS on Wheels' where we will be taking VBS to neighborhoods around the city. We will set up tents and have games and prizes and teach them a Bible lesson.

Two BIG things different from back is 1) almost everyone knows spanish and some places only speak spanish 2) it's soooooooooo humid!! But I really am enjoying it here and we have been staying busy! Keep Miami in your prayers!

Catching y'all up!

Hey! Sorry it has been SO long since I've kept y'all up to date! We finished up completely with our Lubbock time and now everyone is at home taking a small break before we all head off to the Field. I really enjoyed my Lubbock time! Passed all my classes with A's and B's!

The last month of AIM was wild! We had that 17 day trip and then we had a week to kind of hang out and say goodbye to everyone. It was very hard to goodbye to everyone that I had spent so much time with for the last 8th months.

I've been at home for a few days now. This month off we have is to see friends and family and raise a little support (and maybe see a ranger game or two) before we all head to the field. I will be home til about the first week in June and then it's Miami time! I am very very excited (kind of nervous as well, hah!) about going to to do the Lord's work in Miami. I want to thank y'all so much for supporting me with your prayers, encouragement, and the green stuff! :) Please keep me and the team in your prayers!

Love y'all,
Taylor

March Madness!

We're done with Mission Term! Woo Hoo! It was definently one of the harder things I've done in a while. Right now I'm trying to get caught up on my TV shows and ESPN. Don't worry, i haven't gone too crazy on eating out... But one thing Mission term taught was it kind of showed how the rest of the world lived. Most people outside of america don't have a car, we have 2 or more usually. Not everyone has TV's or money to eat out. Shows how blessed we are here.

March Madness

OK let me give you the run down of things to come, and why i titled this 'March Madness.' In about two weeks is finals week for us. The weekend right after that is the week long Camp Adventure, where they average 100 plus kids a year, kids i'm suppose to be responsible for. The day after Camp Adventure is over we leave for the 'Arlington Trip', which consists of driving to Arlington from Lubbock, then to Childress, then to the Tulsa Soul Winning Workshop. The Arlington trip takes place all in about a week and a half. From Tulsa, we'll drive to our team's "Challenge Week" location. Challenge Week is a week long trip where your team goes to a city within a days drive to stay for a week and work with the Church there. Kind of like a first test with just the team alone.

No big deal right?

By the way, I'm REALLY excited about going to Childress for a few days on our trip.

Mexico City

Mexican food in American is not anywhere close to real Mexican food. I tell you what though, Mexicans can make some really good food! I miss it already... But in between the two 28 hour bus rides there and back we did alot of stuff that week. Such as handing out fliers, hanging out with the Mexican people, hanging out with the AIMers on the field there, some service work, and some site seeing. I'll put some pictures of the Mexico trip up soon on my picture website so check it out sometime.

Well, this has been about the gist of things lately. Just trying to keep my grades up and finish up class. Pray for me about the 'upcoming events' please!

Cravings!!!

This picture represents Mission Term perfectly, a bike in the snow (remember, we can't drive). By the way, if you want to look at some pictures from my "AIM experiences" I've created a website for that, just click here.
I'll keep adding pictures all the time so check it every so often if you want (I got a camera for Christmas...thanks Santa!).

-Camp Adventure!-

Camp adventure was just this last weekend. It is this fun little mini church camp that we for people who are thinking about coming to AIM. We have a week long one during spring break that usually has about 100+ campers come, this one only had about 25, which is a good turn out. The campers do "AIM stuff" with us such as service work, devos, hang out, and etc. Then they all come back to our apartments and crash for the night.

I didn't care what kind of service work I had to do as long as it wasn't the nursing home... well... I got the nursing home. I was scared out of my mind at first, we had to be there for about 3 hours. But it turned out pretty good. We went room to room to visit, played bingo, and then we sang to them. My favorite part was when I got to play dominoes. I thought I was good at dominoes, but I got absolutely crushed by a man who couldn't keep the saliva in his mouth. Turns out that one thing I've learned in AIM is I can miss judge old guys and sweet old ladies.

-Mission Term-

I could really use some Seinfeld right now... or a big roast beef from Arbie's... or both! But I'm hanging in there as of now.
In less than two weeks we head off to Mexico City! 24+ hours on a bus! This will be my third trip. I've taken to previous trips with my Church. So I'm a pro at this Mexico stuff... kind of...

Keep me in your prayers! Love y'all!

Christmas Break

These last three weeks have been spent at home doing a whole lot of nothing for Christmas break, and it's been awesome! But.... Mission term awaits us!

What is mission term you ask?

  • No Driving
  • No Electronics (as in no TV, Internet, Movies, Phones, etc.)
  • No Eating out

Hooray Mission Term! We never liked any of those anyways. They do have some grace though. Such as we can use our laptops for school work, Internet to keep up with our supporters, and cell phones to call home. The length of mission term varies, we've heard for some classes it lasted for a month, some said it lasted much longer than that. So it's up in the air for us.

One more new thing about this new term is we will be going to a new Area Church. Last 2 terms I went to Lockney. I really enjoyed my time out in Lockney, really great people out there.

The Mission Field

Kris (the AIM director) told us not to publicly announce our 'destination' until Sunday night so he could have the chance to tell the AIM coordinators himself. But it is Sunday night now! So....

Drum roll please....

Miami Florida! (Yes, Miami is a mission field)

The Picture is of Team Miami (it's not the official picture just a goofy one we took). From left to right we have Casey, Jaz, The Coolest Guy Ever, Robert, and Lora. Our sign were holding up is suppose to be an 'M' for Miami.

Sounds pretty easy but we have alot of work ahead of us. Thursday is the last day of this term and the first day of Christmas break! We will have about 3 weeks off for Christmas so I'm excited about that. After the break we come back and start up our third and last term which is focused more on team building and stuff like that.

If you have any questions about teams or the mission field or anything leave me a comment or email me at taylor.morgan@yahoo.com and I'll get back to you.

Love you guys!

Team Pickin'

Sorry I haven't posted in so long, I've been really busy... or lazy... either one. hah.

A few weeks back we selected our requests for our teams. What we did was we wrote several things:

1. Our top 5 Favorite mission fields

2. Top 5 people you would like to work with on the mission field

3. A list of mission fields we would not like to go to

4. A list of people we would not like to work with (sometimes people can't work together)

There was around 15 mission fields that were presented to us. From talking to past AIMers, they told me that you usually get to go to one of the top mission fields you select and get to go with the people you requested. I don't think they would send you to the places on your "bad list" out of spite.

We'll find out whose on our team and where we're going here pretty soon. I'll keep yall updated.

The Break

I just got back from a nice big Thanksgiving break that lasted about a week and a half. Ate lots of good stuff and watched some football! Got to see some friends and family too. We have class for about 3 weeks then we have another break for Christmas.
